All of Australia is buzzing about the new star for Steve Irwin that is going to be installed in Hollywood next week.  I was lucky to go to the zoo on March 5, but I was also unlucky because it was a very hot and humid day.  The entrance fee is very expensive $59 for general admission and it was too hot to see everything.  I really liked the videos on youtube that show what I missed seeing because of the heat.  Google the Australian Zoo to watch the most recent video.  

I was greeted by a free Australian lizard as I came in the door, he was obviously enjoying the heat and humidity.

I didn’t even take many pictures that day.   But I felt a lot of sympathy for the mother Kangaroo caring for her oversized baby.  Notice the baby is almost the size of the mother.  In the first picture you can see his legs sticking out of her pouch, in the second he is standing beside her:

The Ibis was the first Australian animal we saw when we stepped off the ship.  There are lots of them in Sydney.  They are very nice looking.

I had never seen a Cassowary in the wild, so it was nice to see one in the zoo. Their habitat at the zoo seemed appropriate.  Their colorful feathers were astounding..

There were lots of koalas to see and hold, but I preferred to hold a python having had my picture taken with a koala on my last trip to Australia.

We were lucky that we went out to catch the bus back to Beerwah where we were staying at 3:30 because that was the last bus of the day.  It was a very short air conditioned bus ride to Beewah. The zoo is an hour’s drive or an hour’s train ride from Brisbane.   We stayed at an AirB&B in Beerwah, a lovely little town.
